Water based Wellbeing
Water Based Wellbeing is something that we've come to recognise as a major factor in our own lives, as a family who surf and spend so much time connected to some form of water source. We know that surfing can improve your mental, physical and emotional health after just one lesson, because that's how we got hooked ourselves. You notice the change in your vibe pretty quickly.
The reasons for the noticeable improvements in wellbeing are many (and backed by science), but one of the most powerful is Mindfulness. When you are in the water, whether you are taking part in a surf lesson, or are an experienced surfer, you are totally engaged in the moment, the taste of the sea salt on your lips, the feel of the water around you, the sound of the water, the connection with the wave that 'feels' like the one you are meant to catch. There is a distinct detachment from the outside world and your usual cares and responsibilities, and you are sucked into this realm of feeling totally content and at one with the universe. It might sound a bit daft, but consider why so many surfers are laid back, happy to go with the flow, and always called back to the ocean - they know it soothes their souls, they know it heals them on so many levels.

Nature Nurtures
They say that you spend half of your life in your own head. If that's true, then we have a responsibility to ourselves to ensure that we nurture our minds in positive ways. It is well known that one of the best ways to reset our systems, and improve our lives on a mental, physical and emotional level, is to spend time in nature. Nature is all around us in Moray - the beaches, the ocean, the rivers, the trees, the hills, the wildlife. With direct access to all of these amazing things in our local natural world, we owe it to ourselves to get out and have experiences that will connect us with these wonders. The best time to get out into nature is as a small child, to learn and grow and flourish as one ages. The next best time is right now, when you make a commitment to yourself to reconnect, reflect, and reignite a healthy, wholesome, and enriching lifestyle.
Rhythms for Life
As a family, we've had our fair share of trauma and difficulties over the years. But, when we found surfing in 2006, and starting sharing surfing with others in 2007, our world changed. We no longer lived by the rhythms of a fast paced, goal oriented, money chasing, materialistic way of life. We had a new way to deal with the traumas of our childhoods, the difficulties of adulthood, and the neverending barrage of 'bad news' in the media. We changed, because the water changed us. Adjusting to the rhythm of a water based life has been one of the best decisions we have ever made for our continued positive wellbeing. It is from this realisation that we have been working toward offering something a little different within our Surf School.
Flow & Flourish
As of Summer 2023, we'll have Water Based Wellbeing Sessions on offer throughout the week, as well as Mindfulness and Meditation sessions. Run in connection with Seedling Creations Wellbeing, these sessions will be part of our Flourish theme, aiming to engage and empower through regular wellbeing sessions. We are also aiming to provide a 'Flow & Flourish Club' for our surf school community. Please keep an eye out on our socials for updates.
